WAYNE'S SPEECH

Thanks to everyone who complimented me on my efforts of giving a speech. Here's the transcription that was shakily used at the time.

I heard the rumours going around earlier. No, this is not the Queen’s Speech.

I just wanted to spend a few moments to share with you that having Nikola as a sister (and Michele – our other sister) has, for me, been an experience.

Very early on, Nik taught us how to tune out the shrills of Kum-Ba-Ya, being played, every year at Christmas, on a bass recorder.

Growing up with Nik and Michele, I observed the art of sneaking in guys after Dad had gone to bed. I got to a stage where I perfected it myself too… I just wonder how it would have all panned out if I’d have tried it with girls.

Yes… living with my dear sisters… I grew up accustomed to the lingering aroma of burnt hair and hairspray with the endless pairs of hair crimpers they both got through. Do you remember those? You can get the same effect today by holding on to a metal coat hanger as you jam it in an electrical wall socket.

I’ve always been the one to arrange the transport, haven’t I Nik? Like today with the surprise of the wedding car? And that time she needed to get to Carshalton Hall in a hurry and I gave her a lift on the back of me Chopper.  We both fell off and was taken to hospital. Oh it was a hoot! She had me in stitches.  No… … really… she really did have me in stitches… the scar’s still here… look!

But – I’m talking about the same person who held on to my hand with hers, and pulled me back to life from a near death experience six years ago, in an intensive care room at St. George’s in Tooting. An unprecedented inner strength, second to none, that has held us altogether… a great Mum, wonderful Aunt, terrifying sister,  no…just a minute… that’s “terrific” sister and now, with the calmness, refinement and tranquillity that Caiger has brought in to her life, will un-disputably be a fabulous boot… er wife to boot, I’m sorry!

Ladies and gentlemen, and I see all of Nikki’s female friends are here today… so, Ladies and gentlemen (and that lot)… please raise your glasses… Mr and Mrs Caiger.
